Meanwhile I got really used to the life here. Wild Wapitis eating out of my hand surely helped settling my restlessness. Still trying to get a shot of me and the Chief Elk but it's difficult because as soon as he sees a camera he pretends to lose interest in eating the hay in my hand. As you can see on the pictures the young girls don't care about a little limelight, those brats.

The House were we live in.
It's built all crooked and we keep on falling out of our beds and start rolling until the wall stops us..

It's not really obviuos, but the snow is actually 'blowing' horizontally.

picture taken during a pause i took while sawing wood. wearing ear protection, due to the noise of the chainsaw, gives you a very 'silent' approach to taking pictures.

I thought of a book cover for a crime story and ended up with this. Of course this doesn't fit on the front of a book, unless it had a unusual format. That's why it would take up front and back cover, with a little cropping on the sides to center the road more on the front cover. Blablabla.. Just an Idea.

It's getting frosty now. The streets aren't as icy as the one here - that was about a week ago and it was fun driving on it - but the ever going wind blows snow into the furthest corner and lets streets change shape. The conditions are getting more and more unpredictable. Driving down the roads you suddenly feel the car drifting in a other direction, especially in the turns where the structure of the paved-away snow on the side leaves dead spots, letting the fresh snow pile high. You think you see where the tricky spots are, but when you turn the wheel and accelerate a bit you either abruptly start slidering or you get a sudden grip and jump forwards. And going too slow means risking getting stuck. Harhar, tt the moment, driving a car is certainly an adventure.

You know what's best about good old friends? No matter how long you haven't heard of each other, when you get back in contact things are as they always were. Uncomplicated and honest.

This unexpected B-Day card certainly made my day!

I just got reminded that If you haven't been told there's no way to know what I am actually doing out here. So here's the story; my girlfriend, Claudia, was getting fed up with here work at a PR agency and decided to start going back to school in order to becoming a masseuse. Shortly before she got her diploma she noticed an ad on the fastening board; a Lodge in Canada was looking for masseuses.. Since she always wanted there didn't take long and she had made up her mind. For a half a year. And me? Well, I was told (with a look like on the picture above..) that I could come along, which she would really appreciate, or stay here. Hmm.. OK. So much about my options. I had some stuff going on at that moment but If I had decided to stay I surely would have regretted it. So we packed our stuff and from the moment of the decision until we stood in the middle of nowhere there wasn't really time to think about what we were actually facing. Barely a month had passed.

That's how I got here. But what am i doing. Well, I came here having been told that there were options of working in the marketing sector and doing all the translations for the German ads and website for this Lodge, (www.peacereachadventures.com). It turned out that things where going slowly here and that local people had been hired to do the marketing. The departure of two workers left me in the situation of something like a housekeeper. What I do now is to move snow, chainsaw wood for the oven, feed the horses and the elk heard, do all sorts of repairs, help out in the service and behind the bar. Besides that I have enough time to focus on articles and texts for various skateboard magazines and to update a couple of websites which I take care of. Besides that I have the opportunity to shoot the most stunning sunrises and I am slowly developing the idea of a series of pictures which focus on dirt in an incredibly beautiful nature.

After having serious thoughts of flying back home - there's really nothing to do out here since the lodge is far away from civilization and I'm really missing our social life - I have coped with the situation and am starting to enjoy it. Being in this kind of 'isolation' leaves you enough time to think about yourself and your future. You get to know yourself better and can think about what you really want to do. Hopefully I will make the right decisions.

Sunsets here are ever changing. This one is particularly weird. Except for the light warm tones behind the mountain all the colors seemed to have disappeared. And not only on camera.. It seemed like some guy, like Dr. Anticoloros, was standing on a mountain with a giant vacuum cleaner sucking up all the colors out of the world, roaring with laughter and knowing he had the world in his hands!

I don't know what to write about these pictures. It's obvious that I was just killing time. Instead I'd like you to introduce you to something yummy; the Cucumber Vodka Shot. Russian friends I made in the States showed me this and when I tell people about it everybody gives me these strange looks. But I swear it tastes great and the Vodka gives you this philosophical high, enabling you to say things you normally can't formulate - at least that's the effect it has on me. However, what you do is to take a juicy cucumber, but not the ones used in salad, I mean the salty ones you find in a Hamburger or Sandwich. Pic yourself a huge one, one that snaps so pleasantly when you take a bite. Then you fill yourself a shot of icecold vodka, a manly shot of vodka that is. You then hold the cucumber in one hand and the glass in the other. Now inhale deeply, hold your breath and drink the vodka quickly, without starting to breathe start chewing with delight on that salty treat you have in the other hand. Really fast, then swallow the first mouth-full. Only now you're allowed to start breathing again. If you did it right you should have felt nothing of the vodka and be pleased about the by alcohol increased flavor of the cucumber.
Well, the new year has barely started and I'm sure there should be some vodka left from the party, right? And if you think about it, there's also this huge cucumber glass in the back of the fridge. Aha.. So what are you waiting for?..
